It is not uncommon for young people in Colombia to flee the countryside to study or work in the big cities, but some young producers have decided to work together to help restore hope for the future of coffee in the country. Grouped in the form of an association, these young enthusiasts manage several plantations then process the coffee together at a shared washing station. Sustainability, the environment and quality are key concerns that guide their daily operations.
Yuppie is a direct result of this new type of production. "Yuppie" means hope and joy, two terms that resonate particularly well with the young Colombian producers responsible for creating the association. It was also the name used to describe young professionals in the United States in the 1980s. This is an ideal coffee for making an espresso with slightly spicy and chocolatey aromas and some hazelnut notes.
